Just planted 3 plants, my first ever. partial light area, Georgia claw. I used some soil prep stuff, basically very wet, dark mulch. Ive been watering, when theres no rain, every 3 days with a sprinkler for 15 minutes a day.


After 2-3 weeks, some of the tips of the leaves on all three plants are turning brown. What am i doing wrong here?

It's possible you could be over or under watering. Does your soil drain well? When you are done watering is the water still soaking into the ground or is it puddling on top? When you check the soil is it muddy, dry, or about the feel of a damp sponge? It should have that damp sponge feel, not too damp though.


They might also just need a chance to settle in. Being transplanted can be a bit of a shock to the plants.


Aside from that I am not sure.

I haven't seen a puddle, but I have a mound of pine straw on top of the planting area. Ill check the next time I water. I've been watering less, hoping that was the problem.

How's the drainage in the area, and did you use fertilizer?

Sounds to me like they are not getting enough water, by sprinkler do you mean a broadcasting one like you would water your lawn with? if that is the case try watering them individually with the hose and give them a good soaking.


to check this after you have watered your normal way dig down about 4 inches around the plants if the sail is dry they are not getting enough water.


pine straw as in pine needles? this could also be a problem the pine needles could make the soil a flavor that those types of plants dont like.
