Anyone know of any nice desert plants?

You could browse through www.yuccado.com. I've never purchased anything from them myself, but they look like they have a really huge variety of drought hardy plants. At the very least you'll get some good ideas. Think along the lines of succulents: agave, aloe, various cacti. Many of them are slow-growing, so if you're landscaping a big area you'll probably need to invest in some larger, mature plants.

I would also check in with your county extension agent you can google the one for your county. Those places are a wealth of information on everything to do with what types of plants grow in your zone.


Look around the neighborhood and if you see something you like ask the owner of the house what the name of the plant is and where they got it, you might even score on some free plants this way.

go and check out the living desert near palm springs--it is really cool, and they have lots of desert plants from around the world (and desert animals), all with signs giving you the names so you can take down your favorites
