Found some in the grocery store with the beans. The back of the pkg said to boil 1 cup in 2 1/2 cups of salted water for 45 minutes then add to beans or soup.

Since I was going to make beans anyway, I'm going to do that.

There must be other things to do with pearled barley though.

beef and barley soup

get some stew meat and beat the crap out of it -- so when it boils it shreds into tiny pieces

boil the meat with some of this

add veggies of your choice (peas, corn, carrots, onion, etc)

add 1/2 can of tomato sauce
let that all cook together for 2-3 hours

add in 1 cup of pearled barley
let that cook for 30 minutes

... done
hearty and delicious

Cooked some according to the directions on the package, it's tastes good just with some butter, salt, and pepper.

Put the rest in some navy beans and ham. Now that was very good.

I'll try the beef and barley soup.
