I was wondering if anyone knew what the top brands of turkeys everyone thinks are the best.

Butterball and Jenny-O come to mind around here. Not sure of other places.

I'd have to agree with PK on this one Butterball by far is probably number one.

Jenny-0 makes a quality turkey. But I've been getting the ones at Trader Joes and really dig them.

we had a butterball turkey this past thanksgiving...the texture of the meat was really good, but for some reason the bird was REALLY salty and we didnt add that much seasoning to the bird. It was only very lightly salted before being cooked and shouldn't have had that prominent of a salty taste.

I've seen the equivalent of a butterball out here in Denmark, but honestly I just call my local butcher and order a fresh bird. It's only marginally more expensive than a frozen bird and the meat tastes better.

must be nice, I think we have maybe one butcher here in town(other than the "meat departments" in our local grocery chains)...I havent tried our butcher out, but I've always heard that butchers are usually a bit more expensive than other options. Either way like I said I need to check it out. They will at least probably have choices of meat that are not readily attainable at the local grocery chains either.

To be sure, it's more expensive than going down to the local shopping center, but yeah I think it's a higher quality bird, personally. I can also get salami, etc all handmade, and hop over to the cheese store next door for some specialty cheeses.

Hey that is what we do here in the midwest I know the family that has a largeis fresh turkey operation. Oh and years ago when dad was their veternarian they insisted Butterballs even though they were the industry standard had too much water/butter injected in the meat because it was a cheap way to add sales weight.
