I got into cooking by helping my parents out. Add water to the beans or turn the potatoes off, lead to chopping the onions, mixing the mashed potatoes. By the time I was in college, I always had dinner ready for mom when she came home from work. (I'd generally get out of all my classes by 2pm)

But it was Julia who gave me ideas and the courage to try things my parents would never do.

There's a movie out about her

There is no passion, there is serenity. There is no chaos, there is harmony.
There is no death, there is the FORCE.

Should be interesting... I think also with the economic downturn that we have had it's interesting to see people not only shopping differently but also cooking and trying new things and eating at home more as a family.

I'll probably go and try to see it...

It's a rental, but mainly because the SO would never want to see this.

I've been cooking dinner for 6 since I was 12. Mom used to tell me what to do over the phone while she was still at work so the meal would be mostly done when she got home. That's how I learned.

I definitely plan on seeing it. I came from a family of 5 kids and the oldest at home was responsible for getting dinner on the table when mom and dad came home from work. All the kids had to help though, no matter what the age. If you were too young to cook, you weren't too young to set the table or help do dishes. Because of this, I have absolutely no idea how old I was when I learned, but cooking was always a part of my life.

I am glad because I do enjoy cooking. I sometimes wish I wasn't such a cookbook collector, though. There's not many cookbooks I can pass up and I always have my Taste of Home subscription up to date.

I would love to see this. I'm sure my mom and sisters would go with me. It's been advertizing here for quite some time.

I think some of the funniest parts of the movie were in the blog part. I really enjoyed it.
