like i agree with everyone that said the kitty norville series was good. i didn't really like the first book at all. but the second was a fun read and the 3rd i loved. problem is, i can read this in less than a day. and they're like $7 each so i'm like ffffffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu i'm scared to get into another series like this that has short ass books that are the same price as longer books that take me more than a day to go through.

I have been malcontent with the length of a few good UF authors for a while. Carrie Vaughn, Ilona Andrews, Patricia Briggs, Charlaine Harris, etc. all write these books that come in under 300 pages; that is pushing the limits of decorum.

On one hand the books are good, in part, because they are short. They get in, tell their story and then get out. But on the other hand I'm paying $8 for half a novel.

that's exactly how i feel right now. i don't begrudge them their money. they definitely earned it and $8 isn't a lot. but reading more than 1 book a day and paying $8 sometimes twice a day is wearing on me. i wish i could rent them or something. it's tempting to just download them. i have $100 in gift cards for amazon. i might start buying from them and converting them for my nook. they always hold up really well with links and stuff when you do that. with my luck though, they'd be in goddamn topaz and i wouldn't be able to. i might do that when i'm done with this and start on the hollows books. bulk buy, convert and have 'em all ready for 11 days of reading.

agreed....even digital books cost far too much...especially considering the nonexistent overhead in comparison to printed books...

give me a 700+ page book or gtfo!

Yeah, that's how those stupid Jim Butcher ones are too.

$10 a pop and they're gone in an(admittedly enjoyable) afternoon.

Cryptonomicon was a good meaty three day read for me. But the Baroque Cycle was just too dense for me. Go figure.

It's been years since I've been held captive by a giant thick book.

Bought The Night Circus in e-book and just realized it's only 387 pages.
Just saw my Kindle progress bar and, "Oh crap, I'm that far through already?"
Wish it was longer.
