I think one of the more interesting aspects of WoT is that I don't have any idea how it will end. I can identify the shape the end of the story will take (mostly because Jordan gave us that much) but I can't fathom how it will play out. Usually with a series, especially a long one, the readers know how it will play out or at the very least how it will end well ahead of time.

Definitely, Jordan was very good about leaving possible endings very vague and numerous. But was it because he was that good or was it because he has fifteen bajillion plot lines that muddle any possible predictions?

I think the determining factor will be rather or not all of these main character have a serious and important role in the final battle. If it all ties together and we can look back and see the significance of a majority of the plotlines then it will be impressive.
If Rand sticks his sword in the evil's face while everyone else stands around filling up space it will be disappointing.
