Co-worker wants a cheapish HTPC.

Looking for some ideas.

Mostly streaming, doesn't need a ton of storage, doesn't need to be blazing fast, small case.

Found this section.. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Order=BESTMATCH&Description=htpc+supercombo&x=0&y=0

For me, I used a i3 2100 few months ago. Though if I were going to do one later, I would want to use one of amd newer llano/bulldozer chips when they are widely available. Much better GPU performance and the entry line GPUs would make a great HTPC.

I love NewEgg, but I really haven't gotten into HTPC.

Thinking about it someday though. Would like to get a cable card tuner and build a small PC for recording shows. Tell the cable company to shove that cable box I've paying over $200 a year for (they keep raising the prices on the cable boxes so they can claim not to be raising regular subscription prices in their commercials).

That is a nice thought isn't it. Also to move all my physical media into 1 place. Its nice to have.

The pc cable cards were alittle pricy, but ceton dropped the price of their 4 tuner card to ~300. There was also an external type tuner in development by someone else, but I have not seen it yet. I will be adding a tuner to my HTPC at some point and then probably just use xbox360 as a media extender on my other TV. I am also waiting on reviews of visio tablet as a all in 1 remote control .

The most annoying thing is that there are not good/enough 64 bit codecs. If you planned on just using 64 bit WMC, you need to do a few workarounds. I use XBMC since I do not have TV tuner yet. Even with a few minor annoyances, it is so nice to have a HTPC with all my music in flac and all my movies at a wave of a mouse .
