ok, first I have never done this before so I have no idea what im looking for, have no idea what the hell CFM is, no idea what CFM vs fan size vs RPM means lol talk to me like I am a total newb cause I am.

First the reason.

A. I want to learn more about it.
B. Tried overclocking my CPU from 2.93 to 3.5 and it got way too hot
C. The A/C in my house went out the other day and the CPU over heated and auto shut down just playing games, dont want to be stuck in that situation again in the future.

Specs:
CPU: Type : Intel Core i7 Internal Specification : Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 940 @ 2.93GHz

Motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131665

no 940's for sale on newegg so couldnt post a link

as you can see the socket type is 1366

if you need any other specs please let me know

looking to spend around $50, not over $60

please help!

Thanks a bunch in advance

Edit: would love to do a water cooled in the future, but not right now for 2 reasons 1. I dont have the cash 2. taking baby steps, learning to crawl before I can walk lol

CFM is the measure of how much air a fan pushes.
RPM is how fast the fan spins.

Smaller fans have to spin at a higher speed to push the same amount of air as a larger fan. And more speed means more noise. So larger fans are ideal. 120mm fans are typical for heatsinks.

For $50 to $60. I think the Thermaltake Frio is pretty nice.

It's pretty big, but I see some Sabre X58 owners using the fan, so it'll fit on the board.

Just hope your case is big enough.

And if you decide you want to go with something cheaper. The Hyper 212+ is a good value under $30.

I've been using the 212+ for a while on my 2600K, and I can say that while it's cheaper, it's been working very well indeed.
