I'm sure you've seen the TV advertisement about the guy that is disgusted with his computer and gets up to go to the store to get some software to solve his PC dilemma. Then the wife steps in and suggests PC Matic.

The ad on TV is a bit misleading in that the scan and report is free but the fixes are not.

Reviews I have found on line are sketchy at best. It apparently is a PC Pitstop product. Ha sanyone tried or know of anyone that has used this program?

I am always looking for an "idiot proof" computer tune up type program for my completely non techie father.

Windows can do most of what this does automatically, so why bother with 3rd party junk. PCMatic is what a lot of folks call "scareware."

Same for the others you see advertised on TV/radio all the time - doublemyspeed, myfastpc, and others.

Just set windows to do autoscans, defrag, backup, etc. Microsoft security essentials should be good enough as well.

Your best best is to teach him how to use something like Advanced SystemCare 3.

PCPitStop has had a few good things but if you cannot connect to the website, nothing is going to work for you. During a bad infection, you can have items running in the memory that can comprimise most good tools.

Microsoft Security Essentials - Free AV

AVAST! Home Edition - Free AV

Malwarebytes - Free Spyware tool

CCLeaner - Free Registry Tool

Defraggler - Free better than Windows Defragger

ComboFix - Free Spyware Tool

HiJackThis - Free Spyware Tool

The list goes on and on......

Always recommend items that you would or are using, as if you recommend something your unfamiliar with, your not much help if they call you needing help.

I really should send the Malwarebytes people some moeny since they're the main source of my income.

Well, technically whoever writes the fake scanner malware is, but I'm not paying them.

Honestly there is no idiot proof PC tune up. Just using the MS auto update and scan stuff is about as easy as it gets. Rest, just remote into the PC and save yourself the headache. Teamviewer ftw.
