power outage.. |
my computer went out on sunday from a power outage(thanks irene) and we just got power again. when I go to turn the computer on it physically turns on but there is nothing on the screen and the disk drive lights up and makes a noise every couple seconds as if it's trying to read something on it. it just keeps repeating this cycle over and over again. anyone have any ideas?

Sounds like constant rebooting. How comfortable you feel opening up the case and re-seating everything?

Disconnect all CD / DVD / HDs and memory, and try.
If that doesn't let you power on, my condolences on your motherboard eating it.
You don't need any of the above to start the system successfully. You obviously won't POST or get into windows, but you should get SOMETHING on your screen. Then you can re-add devices to isolate the issue from there.

^ Check out the connections for any ozone smell or burn marks too when you are taking it all apart to test with bare min. If you have a spare GPU might want to test with that as well.

Incorrect, you need 1 stick of RAM, CPU w/Fan, PSU, Video device to post any motherboard. Board will not post and give a monitor message without these items. You have to POST a system to get a message.

Strip out everything cept the cpu, memory, and video card. Does it work? If not, you screwed.
