Any ideas on a good, decent, cheap(its xmas) program to copy from 1 drive to new 1? The old one is going and I don't have time to reload everything from scratch. Thanks for help

you'll end up having to reinstall every program.

xcopy or windows (copy/paste) copy for your data files.

WHAT?!?!?!

The hard Manufacturers sypply you with a program that will copy the HARDDRIVES for free.

Seagate SEATOOLS.

WD has ACRONIS True Image

Maxtor has MAXBLAST

All that is required is that you have 1 qualifying HD.

If your bad drive has bad sectors it might be safer to reinstall and just copy your game saves/data over to the new drive. If nothing was corrupted then an image would work out.

I like Macrium Reflect Free. It can clone a drive for you and doesn't cost anything.

Of course drive imaging programs often will fail if the source drive is in bad shape.

Find and download a copy of Hiren's Boot CD 12 or LOWER. 14 and 15 no longer include stuff like Norton / Symantec Ghost. Create an image and make sure when it asks you about errors, just ignore them and continue.

I've recovered lots of failing OS drives this way. After you capture the image, write it back to a good HD and make sure and let the CHKDSK run when it boots, as the partition should be flagged as dirty.

Good luck!

It's mechanical, data is fine. Never had a drive go bad in 20 yrs, so this was new for me.

Was it a Hitachi? Cause theyve been pushing those things hard and they have been failing fast.
