Hello all,

I am curious if I should copy the SWTOR folders from a laptop to a portable hard drive, and then copy that to a new system & hard drive.

Is there any reason I should do a fresh install of the game on a newly built system?

Reason I ask is it took FOREVER to download the updates for this game, and if I could do it the quick and easy route, I will (so long as there are no issues!).

Thank you!

Best place to ask would be the SWTOR boards. If they follow suit with the programming as have just about every other MMO before, I would guess that you could copy and paste.

If it was a fresh installation of the retail build or the version from the last beta weekend, you can copy the files over. They recommended doing a clean install for any version prior to that.

I never installed the retail disk.
It just kept downloading updates.

It would, but they recommended uninstalling if you had an installation originally installed prior to the last beta weekend. I think it had something to do with old files that were no longer used potentially causing issues. They might have just been being cautious, but I figured why not redownload and reinstall? It didn't take that long.

I've never seen that happen with any game I've beta tested.

My wow install is basically the same since beta. I just copy it from 1 PC to another when I get a new PC or what to install it elsewhere.

Just sayin

Well, I believe Warhammer made you get a new client vs the beta tester one. But that might have only been if you were in the "veteran beta" crap they pulled.

On the WoW subject, when Cataclysm came out it basically reinstalled the entire game on your hard drive. You might not have noticed it because you had space, but it did. Had a couple friends who needed to clear out twice the amount of space so the game could "patch".

I don't even think I installed CATA from the DVD. I am pretty sure I just downloaded the "update".

If it did reinstall everything then I didn't notice.
