I have a Logitech MX518 wired mouse. It works fine, but as of yesterday has developed an odd glitch in that when left unused for around 20 minutes or more, whether the computer is on or off when I next press the left button it has a more solid feel to it along with a loud click, after pressing it a few times it reverts to the normal soft silent click. I haven't moved the computer or loosened the USB connection, haven't done anything to affect it at all outside of normal usage.


Has anyone come across this before, or got any ideas what could have caused it?

Yeah, I've had that happen to me with some mice. I've never really taken it apart to find out what the cause is. Usually the mouse is just old at that point and a sign I need to replace it. It's a mechanical button and only lasts so long.

Probably just dirt or needs a good lubin. I also haven't taken apart any of my mice that have done that. With all the gunk that gets in mice and keyboards I can easily see some gunk getting along the part you are pressing in. Haven't used it for a bit and it sets up and the next click stick for a second then releases. Works fine for awhile until it has time to setup for a little bit.

The annoying thing with mice is they usually put the screws under the teflon feet. And once you pry off the teflon a lot of times it just does't stick back on well enough later.

So I could take the mouse apart and try to fix the sticking buttons. But it seems like I usually just make things worse when I take them apart.

And I really hate when a spring goes shooting out somewhere to never be found again.

Thanks guys, and I agree that it's a sign that time is up on this mouse. Once I've replaced it I'll take it apart and see if I can fix it but it isn't worth trying that while I'm still using it!
