I can't seem to uninstall the driver for an external HD I have. I reformatted 2 weeks ago and finally got around to installing the external HD to get a saved Database off of it. The drivers wouldn't install properly, so I told win 7 which drivers to use. The drive still doesn't work. Whenever I try to uninstall the listed device the "Uninstall device" window appears, but it never actually uninstalls. It just sits there with a green bar moving.

Did you already disconnect the device? If not, try that.


Ive never installed drivers for my External Harddrives.

I did. It was stuck in the device manager. I was finally able to remove it using a cmd prompt utility; however, it has now created a new issues.

First, My G110 keyboard is no longer detected. I even reinstalled the software. Only reason I noticed my keyboard wasn't loading properly was the backlit keys stopped working.

Last, my PC now gets stuck on the shutting down screen. Normally it would take only a few seconds, but last night I was forced to shut down after it was stuck on the screen for 10 mins.

Guess I am going to reinstall win 7. Luckily I have a notebook that I was able to transfer important files too.

Wow. Hopefully this is just an OS corruption issue. Sounds like possible hardware.


Did you try a Registry cleaner before the reinstall?

yes. The win 7 reinstall didn't fix the drive issue. This drive is like 12 years old. Its an old WD combo firewire/usb drive for which WD hasn't updated it since the days of Win ME.

I took the HD out of the enclosure. It's an IDE drive, so I am hoping it was just an interface issue and not the actual drive. I am waiting for a windows update to finish before I can test it.

did the Reinstall fix the Keyboard issue? On that same note, USB enclosure, usb keyboard...I see a link here

BIOS sees the IDE drive intermittently. I doubt even me booting into ultimate boot cd would help.

sounds like it might be time to remove all its contents and discard it. But then I would keep eyes open for another IDE driver to put back in the enclosure as it sounds like the drive is the issue.

Keyboard issue was that windows wouldn't detect my G110 as plugged in. Win 7 kept installing basic hid keyboard drivers. I had to unplug it and then plug it back in. Never had I had to do that with this keyboard ever.
