I always try to answer computer related questions myself. But sometimes, I have to cave and ask others.


I am a KVM switch noob. I completely understand the concept of them, but I am no expert. I've tried to Google what I am looking for, but there are too many words in my search.

I am trying to find a KVM switch that allows me to connect two monitors (DVI) and a USB headset on one channel, flick the switch, and swap over to my TV and USB speakers.

My TV is an LCD, so I can get an HDMI to DVI converter. Even though I am afraid it will mess up the quality of the picture, it's going to my computer, so the picture will already look a little crappy.

Any ideas guys? :<

I am a little confused as well. It sounds like you're wanting to use a video switch?

Hmm. Maybe a video switch is what I am looking for. That might be why I can't find anything.

I am moving into an apartment. My computer desk and entertainment center are going to be right next to each other. I want to be able to have two monitors and a USB headset hooked up to my computer. Flick a switch, and have the video from my computer go through my TV and the sound go through USB speakers.

another possibility is having a video card that has both hdmi and dvi output and use duel monitor function. If you connect your sound card to hdmi, you can just use tv speakers or audio system using the output from your TV

I just manually turn my computer speaker on and off when I switch my TV into the monitor setting and use extended monitor. It is just that you won't be able to use your usb speakers the way you want to

I could use some sort of Windows monitor settings to extend the display to the TV, or duplicate it. I am just looking to be able to extend/duplicate my desktop to my TV in the easy way possible. I don't want to have to crawl under my desk, or mess with settings too much. I have the knowledge to do it, I just want it to be a quick and simple switch.

I, unfortunately, do not know if my video card has HDMI. I will have to check when I get home.

Note: I am using the dual monitor function 100% of the time now.
