I remember the first day I was there that it was that hot, a major came up to me when i just walked into "tent city" and he asked me what I was doing. I told him that I just got off duty. He said "good! Drop off your shit in your tent and go over to that big pile of sand. We have about 10,000 more sand bags to make". Two days later (after we had finished with the sand bags) it was july 4th and we had a BBQ. Hardly anyone ate anything. Not because it was too hot, though it was once again over 135 degrees. No one ate anything at the BBQ because it was the same thing we ate every day. Goats and camels that were purchased from local nomadic tribes and butchered every morning outside in a parking lot. it tasted like shoe leather and was tough like beef jerky. But that was a good TDY. No one got shot..
