1979 = received 54% of government transfer payments

2007 = received 36% of government transfer payments


This is pre-Obamacare, which will drive this down even further.


If you are wondering who really suffers by all the new folks receiving entitlements, just look at the people who need them the most. The expansion of entitlements will ultimately lead to the demise of the safety net that our country has championed for the last 60-70 years.

When I made this post a few weeks ago I got flamed by a lot of right-wingers.


P.S. The other way to read those numbers, though, is that it's not only the bottom 20% that needs help now. We have moved to such a divided economy that the whole bottom 50%ish is not making it on their own at a standard of living people have come to expect Americans will have.
