Basically, I've been leveling on Darktide without using any of the portal hubs (as a necessity, since that's just asking to get ganked) and it turns out you can have an AC experience that is actually quite similar to the way the game used to be played if you impose a few restrictions on yourself.
Beyond no town network or no quest hub:
- No using buffbots, all buffs are self-cast and by those in your party.
- No using decal (this makes playing a sub-100 toon on Darktide very scary)
- GIMP YOURSELF! My Sword/Two-handed spec character on Darktide is the melee that I have always wanted to play, and has made my progression infinitely more difficult and interesting (just got Item at level 60!!!)
- And lastly, but probably most importantly, plot out your path according to the old quests from launch you find at the taverns at each of the towns. Starting my Sword/Two-hand spec going after the keys for the SoLL while getting the GMC and doing the HoH, I ended up stumbling upon the Carved Caves and the portal to the Halls of Lost Light without even realizing or remembering that THAT was the dungeon with the portal to the Direlands at the bottom. Going down and nearly soloing the Guardian of Lost Light on a level 26 gimp (got him down to 1/3 health!) was honestly one of the greatest experiences I've ever had in this game.
IT'S STILL POSSIBLE!! JUST BELIEVE!!!!!! (ATREYYUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!)
Anyone with me?
I guess I just don't understand why people are so aghast at the thought of rerolling a toon on AC *EVER*. What would Diablo I or any other game be if you never played the first few levels over again?

I just rarely get a chance to play because of RL obligations...but I wish you all the best!
I might still try doing this on MT instead of HG if I can get anyone else in.
