if I chose to not roll a farming toon (SM/Hunter) and just made a Valk with a Buff Bot? My main concern is I'll be starting from scratch. No cash, level 1 and having to farm all my scales and glass.

Just offer your services as a block bot + buff bot in /lfg /reg at the PL spots in ToA for glass.

As for scales, can't help you there, I buy mine 99% of the time. What my guildies did was just keep farming glass, and trade em for gold/scales.
