My friend is power leveling a buffbot, and sometimes the mobs go after the buffbot. Do buffs cause threat to the buffbot? I know mobs randomly go after group members anyways but do buffs cause them to more?

when pulling a mob somtimes they BAF ( Bring a Friend) now the friends they bring currently have no agro on any one yet. so they can go after anyone they choose. it is meerly bad luck they go after your bot. the only way you can solve the problem is to attract agro to the mob before it gets to your bot.

^^ What he said. That's also why you can heal with HoTs without getting aggro (HoTs are considered buffs)

No, buffs do not generate aggro. Some mobs use a root spell and then switch to another target (not for a specific reason, just because they can).

Is it true that sometimes mobs will hit groupmates of the player they're currently targetting as they train by if the current target is out of range?

Yup. Totally true.
This is extra funny when you are PLing and one of your mates likes to stand a little too close to the action.

you can utilize this in some cases. Stick someone right in front of the dpsing caster, and with that hit, you'll be able to get another spell off. Might be useful if the PLee is able to take a hit, etc.

some mobs have a random aggro or they will switch aggro to somebody else in the group for seemingly no reason (not healing not dpsing etc) so keep that in mind also

Ok we're doing white lights in gwynedue or however its spelled, and every 5 mins he has to run away on his buffbot pretty much to the next zone to get rid of aggro. We might wanna checkout a better spot for a DSight Necro and a buffbot but don't know any better camps. My favorite was grannies in emain but that was on mordred we would probably die alot more than white lights on a rvr server.

Is his BB also healing? If he's throwing in a heal every now and then make sure he is as far away from the action as his spell range will allow. Get some +range gear and stand way back. Also have your tank use his taunting abilities aggressively, hitting each mob at least once to ensure aggro. <edit> Oh yeah, and make sure your BB isn't sitting down. For some reason Mobs love swatting sitting characters, and they seem to do max damage when they do.
