I'm trying to figure this out, but why in the hell would you announce this? The server is shut down lol I mean really ... wtf Mythic?

I'm pretty sure it's always been up, you just had to select legacy servers from the login screen.
If it wasn't up then folks returning to the game who hadn't transferred/charcopied over wouldn't be able to get their characters off.
Kind of a silly announcement though since 99.99999% of the population balance would have no clue that it ever went down.
