I recently purchased a Belkin n52te Tournament Edition SpeedPad because it looked pretty cool and others wrote it works well for games. I have always use right hand to move characters with mouse and then when in combat with arrow keys on keyboard. My left hand exclusively for targeting and hitting hotbar keys. Mainly numbers 1-5, F1-F5 qbinded to hotbar slots, Tab key is for important spell or function as pinkie hits it just right, T-targetting nearest enemy, F-target nearest friend, spacebar jump.

How many of you are using left hand for all movement? Or do you use a combination of left hand AWSD and mouse?

Anyone have this Speedpad or the older version N52? Any tips on how best to use it?

I have used both the N50 (currently on my bot PC) and the N52 (currently on my main PC). The N50 does not have the 3rd bank of keys, so I used to have /face and /stick on my quickbar ( now I have a UI with a floating window with them).

I have top row as Alternate function- 1 - 2 - 3 - 4, Shift - 5 - 6 - 7 - 8, function row as Face - Stick - Strafe left - Strafe right.

Wheel functions as mouse wheel does, but I dont use it much.

Button above D-pad as autorun.

D-pad as follows. Up = turn left
Down = turn right
Forward = walk forward (or normal movement, like forward arrow)
Back = walk backward

Space bar as Nearest Target.

I use Shift and a number to change my main quickbar pages, with slots 9 and 10 on each quickbar filled with some 'extra' funtion that is in the same family as the other spells/macros on that qbar page, but dont get used as much so I can click on them if needed.

All situational instant spells/macros are on a 2nd quickbar on my screen, and I hold my mouse pointer over that bar and scroll the wheel to scroll to the next page if needed.

Screenshot of my UI and window setup in game and my N52 key setup.

http://www.dropbox.com/gallery/3541098/1/SShot%20and%20N52%20setup%20pics?h=71ed54

When I roam around, I usually either:

1) target someone and /stick to them
2) hit auto-run
3) hold down left and right mouse buttons together.

When in combat, my stick, face, and strafe keys are very handily set, as is nearest target to nuke (with face) or smack (with stick).

Hope that helps!

========

I use my N52 for EVERY game I play, if I stick with that game for any length of time. Can be programmed with different profiles for FPS games, RTS games, MMOs, you name it. I even have a 'generic FPS' profile with the generic setup just to load up when playing a new shooter.

Hello!

I found a thread from a few years ago that helped me tons... the info there, and a bit of playing around, has helped tons. I'll list my buttons, and the thread where you can find some more ideas.

1 - f1 2- q button (dive) 3-w (forward) 4- f3 5-f4
6- f2 7 - a (strafe left) 8-s (back) 9- d (strafe right) 10- f5
11 - f7 12-f8 13-f9 14-f10

Scroll up - sprint, scroll down - runlock, scroll button push - cycle keymaps

thumb button- f5

dpad north - nearest enemy/stick dpad East- assist (assist done through a qbind)/stick
dpad south - follow dpad west - vent speak

space - jump (space)

essentially I followed the advice to set up qbinds off the 3rd bar, 7th window to the f keys. So the first slot is set to f-1, second slot f-2, ect. from there i set up how i'd like my attacks for each character. It helps a ton in that i dont need to reset the nostromo for every character, but rather just make a new qbind. Also, when i do use the keyboard on the computer everything is set up "normally."

hope this helps!

for a caster: (melee is different)

best things you can do for yourself is unbind your turn keys, strafe keys and backpedal keys, as these are very slow and inefficient ways of moving around, and should never be used. then bind pan to right mouse, mousepan to left mouse, and bind a run forward key and a autorun key. never hold down forward to run, just tap forward-autorun to keep your hand free. bind spacebar to face as this is the most important movement command: it allows you to stop on a dime and immediately begin casting. jump is important also but only to break /face, so typically go face-cast-jump so that your character is no longer autofaced.

so far we've used only the following keyboard keys:

forward
autorun
sprint
face
jump
dive
rise (in water)

this leaves you with over 20 more keys for qbinds. make it a goal to not have to ever switch bars, as this takes a lot of time (which you may not realize, but it really is very inefficient), and to have every non-timered ability on qbind. put your timered stuff on the bar so that you can see when it is up.

at first this setup will feel awkward and difficult but within a week you will be comfortable with it, and within 2 weeks you will be moving around more efficiently and faster

So on caster you never go backwards? I know for melee its important to mitigate run thrus but I guess for casters thats not a priority. So for caster you do all movement with mouse then leaving everything with left hand keyboard for spells? Guess that is sorta what I do now but once in combat I switch back and forth from mouse to keyboard for movement.

why would you ever backpedal as a caster? it's faster to spin your character around with the mouse and move forward
