Like many, i've left daoc behind years ago, but recently i'm flirting with the idea of coming back after many years hiatus. I miss the RvR experience. New frontiers and what not. I've heard people talking about classic servers and regular servers, but dont really know the difference. If i came back i'd like to either pick up where I left off with my Minstrel or reroll on a classic server maybe? Anyways, is it a good time to come back? Whats the state of the minstrel? Are they still desired in groups?

classic servers are no more.

Hit yourself in the nuts with a 9 iron would be my recommendation.

No classic servers anymore

There is:

Ywain (10 server cluster - toa active)

Gaheris (PvE)

Mordred (PvP - pretty desolate)

ToA has been nerfed into the ground. If you're character xfers over frmo a classic server though you get ML1-5 for free. Plus bounty points can buy arti/ml scrolls/credit/item and glass drops off ToA mobs which can be turned in like BPs.

The same goes with dragon scale items

I came back, very weary, and honestly I have been having a blast. And yes, minstrels are always loved

VN DAoC sticky:

How to Download and Install DAoC: A Guide [updated 8/14/2009]

(edit: great guide by beibhinn for returning players)

-------------------------------------

From http://vnboards.ign.com/daoc_general_board/b5176/112214332/r112215063/

From this thread Hello, I'm returning, quick question:

"All xpacs are free now (all old accounts have been upgraded to LotM xpac. The SI/TOA game engines are no longer supported). At the top of the general board is a link to the download/install guide. On the top of the Herald is a link to the download page. . . .

You will want to read up on the Ywain server information. There is a link on the Herald called archived server information that will get you to the info and faq...."

From this thread Transfer characters from Ector :

"The old servers, classic and TOA, are being shut down and are only active so returning players can log in and transfer old toons (log in, pack up houses, transfer guild homes to a toon that does not have a personal home, etc . . .).

Even though you see Ywain 1, Ywain 2 . . . .Ywain 10, Ywain is only 'one' server . There is only one Ywain server with 10 login servers. By having 10 login servers it allows returning players to transfer up to 100 old toons to Ywain.

Ywain was created because Mythic needed to continue to cluster but the combined databases of all the combined/clustered servers was getting so large that it was unmanageable. They could not combine any more clustered databases so they created Ywain and all active players must transfer to Ywain. This combines the server populations and it cleans up the database.

Returning players must move to Ywain."

About Housing.

If you have a guild home and a personal home on the same toon, read the archived server information paying close attention to info about transferring your guild home to a toon without a personal home or you may lose all your stuff on the personal home.

You are only allowed one home per account per realm per server. Because there are 10 login servers for Ywain you can have up to 10 homes on Ywain, 1 per login server

If on the old TOA and Classic servers you have 2 toons with homes, if the two characters with homes are transferred to the same Ywain login server only one will be allowed to recreate a new home. If the characters with homes are transferred to different login servers they will both be allowed to recreate homes.

There is a great utility, character builder, called Charplan. You will find that it has the most up to date information concerning character abilities

For great maps, see valmerwolf's site.

The game UI is lacking. It would be best if you loaded a custom UI and they can be found by going to the UI VN boards.

The original game and all expansions (Xpacs) are no longer charged for, the monthly subscription fee covers it all. The main game download/install from the Herald includes all Xpacs.

-----------------------------

Edit:

All old accounts now have a Master EA/Mythic account. Your new Master EA/Mythic account has been set to your old DAoC account name and password.

You may have a free 10 day 'Return to Camelot' offer. Log into your Master account to see if you have a free 10 day offer.

Thanks a ton guys for the links/advise. I do have 14 days to play around with so I'm hoping to have a lil fun :-D

That said, my 40something minstrel isn't where I thought she'd be, is it possible they've moved her? I 'think' her name was Amrilynn but it's been years. Or do I need to log into each archived server to find her?

Log into your original account and check the archived servers. If no luck there, call Mythic and they will find your character for you.

If you want classic there is always Uthgard... their old style daoc pre TOA so no expansions and old frontiers.
