So what is the real story with DAOC these days?

I haven't played this game since SI, and I understand that after TOA it went downhill. If I started with a friend again, could we get to 50 in a few days? How hard/long does it take to gain RR? What are templates is this TOA nonsense needed? What do people do at level 50 mostly, is everyone a bot, is everyone fighting in one zone? Are the people that are 50 all maxed RR/Gear running in premade 8mans? Can 2 players actually take on many people or do you just get zerged down now? Are there people roaming around a particular zones, or is it just zergs moving about? I am looking to just enjoy RVR action with a friend, is it too much of a hassle nowadays?

Yes, leveling is quite easy regardless of method used

It varies but much faster than when you last played

RvR mainly though some like to PvE

Just like before there are hot spots but it isn't all in Emain

People run good gear as it's not too hard to come by; you'll see more high RR folks then you were used to; people solo small man, 8 man, zerg, ect...

Depends on realm. Safest bet is always Albion, though Midgard has been decent lately. Stay away from Hibernia if at all possible.

If you know your old toons still from when you played, and you didn't sell them, you can still transfer them for free to the remaining Ywain server. It would make things faster for you because now, you can buy all ToA artifacts and Master Levels with bounty points (if you don't remember, you get bounty points and realm points for fighting in New Frontiers)


ToA is necessary, both because the ML abilities are important and you probably will need a few artifacts to complete your template and give you a few extra toys that are useable even at low realm rank.


If you know people, they can buy this stuff for you. That is very common, or if you are in a good guild, they will certainly do this part for you and this alone with a player crafted suit will get your competitive. You might not have top of the line gear/template, but it will be serviceable, and it is actually pretty easy to do with some help from a more established person.


The population is very healthy you can be level 50 in a matter of hours, certainly 12 hours or less. If you do it yourself, it will probably take 20-40 hours depending on what toon you play, and what gear you have acess to leveling. It is nothing like the /30-50 days played that it was in the early year or two.


Standing in the main city of each realm, I see advertisements to join guilds, just like in the old days. I don't know the quality of these guilds, but I think you will be surprised at the help you will be offered for a returning player needing a little help.


The game is much friendlier than VN boards

All the more reason to play hib imo.

Hitting higher realm rank:
It's actually quite easy these days. I recommend playing albs or mids if you're looking for an 8 man or small pug, but if you are up for a challenge.. I definitely would like to see some sort of force on hibernia.

There are Darkness Falls quests which is pretty much free rps and encourages Deathblow steal (:() and the personal missions in New Frontiers.
