Hey im thinking about coming back to the game after such a long break from it. I started playin daoc right when it came out but stopped after a few years.. Anyone know what server to join to get right back into the game???

There is but one server, and ywain is it's name. The number really only applies to housing anymore, and which one to select your characters. Everyone plays on the same server now, except Mordred and Gaheris.

So all my chars from like when the game started are on those servers now? or idk im confused...

Here is the state of the game servers' history up to now.


When the DAoC servers started dwindling in population, Mythic started clustering servers. Players kept thier names but each was appended with the server of their origin. When the massive clusters became clustered into the Ywain server, there was the possibility of players running out of character slots (10 per realm was just not enough for the majority of players).

For this reason, they made 10 login servers, each with its own housing server. All other zones in the game were shared, no matter which login server you started from. Recently, Mythic (FINALLY) did away with the server name appended to the end of character names, so you no longer had to specify name-server when inviting or communicating with other players not from your own home server. However, you still have only one 'home' server where you can buy a game house.

To get characters from the 'old' servers to Ywain, you must log in to each toon individually.

1. Start the game, let it patch, then login. Do NOT choose a character (if you you have allready made some). Instead, click OK, then ACCEPT ACCEPT on the EULA's, and you should be at the server select screen.
2. Tick the checkbox in the bottom left corner to 'Show Archived Servers'.
3. Now you need to try to remember where you characters were. Log in to the server(s) and each toon, then follow the instructions from the link above.

I recommend you do NOT go to Ywain 1-3, as the housing zones are mostly filled up. Players often chose the first few, not knowing they were all clustered, and bought houses on those servers first. Any other server is likely fine.
