I followed the link from the game logon screen but it just takes me to a page not found or an under construction screen.
Does anyone know where I can find actual instructions?

heh that's bad, that you cant' even find the page.

The quick answer is this:

/freexfer ywain#, where # = 2-10

DO NOT PICK YWAIN1 !!!

Pick any other Ywain, because on Ywain1 there is a massive shortage of housing.

Second of all, put characters from different realms onto different Ywain servers. Actually... I don't know if this is necessary, I also don't know if you're forced to do this. (ie. all Hibs onto Ywain4, Mids on Ywain6, Albs on .. nvm just /delete your albs).

Something else that you should know. If you don't like any of the names on any of your characters, now is the only time in which you'll ever be able to change it. If you have a character whose name you do not like, then create a brand new character on any of the Ywain servers with the same name, and then (as in AFTER creating the new Ywain character) when you /freexfer a character over, you will be forced to rename it. It also turns out that if someone else has already chosen your name you will also have to rename it.

And lastly, be intelligent about this. You can have 10 characters of the same realm on any Ywain# server. Therefore, if for some reason you had like a bunch of Hibs on Guinivere, but also from a long time ago you had a few 50's sitting around on Merlin on the same realm, then you can now put them on the same Ywain server so that you can access them from the same login screen. Or, me for example, I had 2 mentalists on Morgan Le Fay (from way back in the day when you couldn't really respec, one was light one was mana), of course I retired one and only used the other, so i'm not gonna transfer both Mentalists to the same Ywain.

All Ywains are clustered of course, choosing the # of server to put them on only affects where you can buy a house, and which server you log in in order to log your characters into the game, but once you're in game everyone on Ywain plays together.

log onto your character on whatever archived server they are on, then type for example /freexfer ywain5. You should get a message, then you log out, and the character should transfer in a few minutes. Log onto the next one and repeat.

Giving good hints or good instructions is not something that Mythic seems very good at. They put the instructions in a hidden spot and expect you to search for it or be psychic and "know" where and what.

The old Herald is no more. The new Herald has the instructions but the link is buried/hidden/etc. . . Mythic does not really care or they would make the link easy to locate, its not as if putting a simple link in a clear location on the Herald is rocket science.

Ywain is a TOA server.

Server population was dieing and to help keep server population up Mythic was clustering servers together. As the player population continued to shrink, Mythic needed to continue clustering servers but they had a huge problem, the database of old characters was becoming so huge (on the existing clusters) the database was becoming unmanageable. Because the existing databases were so huge, Mythic could no longer combine the databases, which meant they could not form a new cluster (yet they needed to cluster the final servers together to keep the population up to keep RvR viable).

Their solution, create a new server that everyone, all active players, will transfer to (everyone transfers except Mordred and the Coop). There are 10 Ywain login servers that are just character holding areas. The 10 login servers allow players to transfer up to 100 old characters to the new server, but Ywain 1-10 is only one server.

The old servers will be maintained as character holding areas for returning players; so returning players can come back and transfer toons over to Ywain.

If you have level 50s on the old Classic server, there is a quest that gives free credit before you are allowed to transfer.

Mostly it does not matter which Ywain you use, as all Ywains are really just one server, but housing on Ywain 1 is very full so if you are thinking of getting a house I would use a different Ywain than #1.

Free credit for what?

Thanks for the links.

Hmmmmm, good question. Sorry that I negelected to put that in. Free ML 1-5 credit for Classic server level 50 characters.

Here is another link:

quote from http://camelotvault.ign.com/wiki/index.php/Returning_Players posted: Transferring Your Character (Classic Servers)

Important: If you are a GM, you must transfer your guild BEFORE you transfer your character.

The procedure to transfer a character form a Classic server (Lamorak, Ector or Gareth) has one difference than the normal servers. Mythic has given Classic players free ML5 credit (including experience per ML) and a couple of free items to aid in the transition from Classic to Normal through a simple quest (level 50 only). You won't be allowed transfer your character until you have completed these quests.

When characters on Classic servers log in, they'll need to go to the main market place in housing for their realm:

Meath Marketplace for Hib

Caerwent Marketplace for Alb

Aroithi Marketplace for Mid

Speak with the NPC called Royal Accountant.

This NPC will give you 2 quests.

The first gives you the ML1-5 credit. Simply speak with the Royal Accountant to get the quest, and speak with him again to complete it.

The second quest gives you a couple of items like horse, pets, dye, etc. Again, just speak with the Royal Accountant to get the quest, and speak with him again to pick your items and complete the quest.

When these quests have been completed, you can now transfer your character:

Welcome back

Having problems transfering as well. Transfered a few toons when Ywain opened. Now I'm trying to move some more.

/freexfer (alone) says eligible to transfer to ywain1, ywain2, etc.

/freexfer Ywain1 say "not eligible to transfer"

"not eligible to transfer"

The only reason for that error, that I have seen on the boards where a person gets the "not eligible to transfer", is when a moving a character off of a Classic server and they have not yet done the ML credit quest.

This is another area where Mythic has decided to stick it to the customer just a bit. The error statement could have a lot more explanation but instead of explaining what the problem actually is, Mythic decided to just be cryptic with the error statement and let the players swing in the breeze wondering, "WTF is this?".
