I bought a StarDrop gem (which gives +20% to stat buff effectiveness) to try with my Saracen Scout CL buffs and self-buffs in the hopes of a juicy bump to my DEX. I was disappointed with the results. My unbuffed DEX is 249. Adding my CL DEX (+26 delve) raised it to 276 w/o the StarDrop, and 281 with it, an increase of 1.8%. Then adding in my red DEX/QUI buff (+72 delve), it went up from 276 to 366 w/o the StarDrop, and to 374 from 281 with it, and increase of 2.2%. So the overall diff with the StarDrop was 374 DEX vs. 366, or a paltry 2.2%.
BTW, the tooltip on my DEX says:
140 Base
+101/101 (2 over cap)
+8 Realm Ability bonus
+125 Buffs/Debuffs
Why did I only get 2.2% with the StarDrop, instead of the 20% I was expecting? Is there a hard cap for buffs, like maybe 125 ?
I am not a numbers guru, but here is what I found when I toyed with them.
The Stardrop adds a 20% bonus to the buff number for each buff individually. That is, the CL buff of 26pts becomes 31.2, and the self spec buff becomes 86.4, for a combined total of 117.6. Rounded up, its 118.
Add 118 to your base dex of 249 = 367, but it may have been rounded off to 366 somehow. The +8 RA bonus is THEN added on top to come out to 374.
Now, you say your 'unbuffed' dex is 249, is that BASE dex or after RA bonus? I may be washed up here, because even my numbers don't make sense. +26 CL buff plus 72 self buff = 98 with no buff bonus; added to your 'base' dex of 249 = 347, a number I do not see reflected in your post.
What I am pretty sure of is that the Stardrop adds 20% to each buff bonus before it is applied to your total; it does not get applied to your total dex after buffs. If the 20% was added AFTER your buffs were applied, you would have dex of about 416.
