I've had a similar problem like yours, long time ago (twice I think).
I'm thinking about the black screen, and my problem were the fan on my graphics card
that didnt work too well (made more and more noise), so it burned my card in the end.. (had two cards that died within the same year, but not because of old dust..maybe just bad luck hehe) -also tried the landscape change like yours.. GFX card died not long after.
Have you checked the inside of your computer for dust ? Get your vacuum cleaner out and
dont be afraid to get near the fans to remove the dust.. could be an overheating problem.
Now that I think of it, Ive also had some defective RAM, but that mostly caused the game.dll to
insta shut down the game, and not just LD.
Thank you Roerie03 for the added detail.
As Gloriena said, based on the graphics problems that you have, I would also think that the first thing to check would be dust. It is one of the easer things to eliminate as a possible problem.
I have had dust that was very stubborn and found that a vacuum would not actually get it all. Also, home vacuums create huge amounts of static electricity and the static electricity can, from time to time, cause damage to components. Be careful when using a vacuum.
Many office supply stores sell canned air for blowing out the dust from computers, I would try that and see if your problem goes away. If there is dust in the video card heat sink, make sure to blow out the rest of the computer.
