About 4 or 5 years ago, the quest A Matter of the Heart was introduced. The reward was an ugly little valentine imp lawn trophy and I really wanted it. I was into the trophy's and decorating my house.

The quest required you to go to Agramon Island, find the imp and slay him to get his remains. So one afternoon when things were slow, I went hunting with my blademaster. I found the imp and proceeded to engage him. He was a purple con mob, and pretty tough to solo, but I was holding my own. Along comes a Mercenary who naturally begins to attack me. I wasn't going to back off the imp, he was pretty hard to find and wasn't stationary so If I died and came back, I'd have to start the hunt over. I thought maybe I could kill the mob before the merc took me out. I ignore him and stay on the imp. I really wanted that trophy! After a few hits, he stops and just stands there for a bit. I'm still holding my own, but the imp seems to have the advantage of having a little more life than I do at this point. So the Merc shield slams it, hits it twice then backs off and watches me finish off the job. He bows to me, waves and starts to move on his way. I hit a couple heal pots to bring my health back up, and begin to head towards the Hibernian Lab entrance. Next thing I know, I'm being attacked by a Spiritmaster and Warrior duo. I jump on the SM first, but my hits aren't doing much since the warrior is guarding her while hitting me. Along comes the Merc who starts hitting the Warrior. We win the battle, he bows, I curtsy and we both go our separate ways.

I never did find out who it was, or even if I know him on a Hibernian alt, but since that trophy is still in my yard, I can never forget that very strange encounter.

This weeks Topic of the Week wants to hear about your strangest or most memorable RVR encounter.

If you have an idea for a topic you'd like to see, please drop me a line.

good story

All my memorable RvR encounters seem to involve siege equipment.

One of my funnest fights was with a rr9 or rr10 cleric,I was on my rr6 sb and we fought for what seemed to be like 10 min. I used everything I had and got her close to death and just couldn't seem to finish her off. I was finally getting very low on health and switched to traitors dagger and got sum vampric mists to spawn. They were given me a lil health and sum much needed interups. I ended up winning, but it was just a fun fight =)

I'll never forget playing my Minstrel (usually solo, stealth-type, petless around '02) and running into a Healer of unknown spec at AMG in Mid in OF. After using all my tricks (most twice) I downed him after at least 15 to 20 minutes.

I got some nice or funny memories...

one was a fight next to Dun Na nGed... over the bridge heading to ddb... on the meadow a Paladin saw my hero and engaged. We both fought a long time... I used IP two times and we both were above 50% life. Small Keen NS saw that and sneaked near, asking if i need help. I denied and we fought on... Then when it finally got interresting, a group of mids run us over. I will never forget that fight.

another one was at Boldiam Maze tower... we knew we would have a big inconming and discussed in voicechat where we would be, what we would do. One of our druids, calles Bun Ny, told us that she (he) was ready. A minute after that the red wave hit us like a ton of red rectangle building things. Bun Ny wasn't moving, stood behind a wall in the maze and didn't do anything... we screamed in voicechat to hurry etc... finally after we were swept away we asked Bun Ny in voice chat what has been going on... the answer was a hearty *snooooooaaaaaarrre* he slept in during the minutes wait.

and many other duels against archers. mostly for fun without a kill. even took out my mighty shortbow of doom =)

kind regards

My most memorable RvR encounter was near the tail-end of classic, when there were maybe 80-100 people on at most times during the day. One thing about classic was Midgard had a high Euro pop, and thus in the mornings and afternoons would raid Albion or Hibernia with little to no resistance. Although it wasn't very fun, because of the bonuses available, you could still make RPs.

During the night however (for us NA players) Albs would come out in numbers, generally running 2-4 FGs (which was amazing, since you could rarely muster 2FGs to lower a relic) and would take relics, keeps and towers throughout the night, with again, no real resistance. One night, myself and what later turned out to be a guildy (a friend at the time) decided to stay up kind of late and just have some fun with the Albs.

So Albs take Bledmeer (we were taking breaks) and then take Nottmoor before we can really rally to defend it. So we decide that we'll hit up Glen and try and salvage some RPs there (In NF at that time was: myself, playing a warlock, my friend, playing an SM, Adarak (on his SB), and a shaman/healer (both augers, so there was no pac magic or big time diseasing) whose names I completely forget). We all end up at Glen before the Albs arrive and group up. We were expecting two groups of Albs when more come to take the keep, lead of course by Oldboy and Haines. Right away we realize that the siege will probably be pretty quick, and we were outnumbered heavily, 5 vs 20-30. They start on the outter and me and my friend are able to catch a bunch of them off guard simply because they were not expecting any kind of defenders at the keep. So we kill 10 or so outside, but of course, they rez up and get ready to rock again. The outter falls in about fifteen to twenty minutes, and we move to the inner keep. We again pick several victims during during the inner keep siege, managing to push them out of the CY, to res and rebuff their dead (also allowing for the door to be repaired). They do this several times and the siege for the inner door takes a solid hour of constant action to penetrate.

At the point of time in classic, a charge to the lord room would have resulted in death, a keep with level 10 guards was tricky, and the albs knew it. So another large scale battle errupts between the lord room and the bottom of the stairs, with albs dealing with level 10 guards and us. We again are able to push them out to the CY and kill a large number of them (however they managed to kill most of the level 10 guards). This up and down battle takes another half an hour. Finally the albs are able to regroup, res their dead and prepare for another counter. At this point of time, the lord room only maybe has 2 lvl10 guards, and it's looking like this will be out last stance. However, Albs make a fatal mistake when they try and push to the roof. My friend, adarak and I are able to kill about 50% of their force during their push to the roof, including most, if not all their casters. So on the roof there is about ~10 albs that are dealing with two pesky lvl10 guards, but they do a good job of covering the staircase to the roof (Oldboy and another Heretic both start PewPewing once you show your face). But with a quick push and some warlock chamber magic I get on Oldboy (I was PBAoE spec) and finish him off while my friend mezed the the other tic. We add in on the fighting guards and are able to finish off the Albs. So finally after a two 1/2 - three hour long keep siege we are able to push the albs out and save our relic, against really, really lopsided odds.

We repair the CK and get about 7-8k of defense rps BEFORE classic bonuses. Was the most fun I've ever had in one night of play in DAoC. Of course after the battle; it was like 3 am, and I was tired, so most of us logged for the night. The albs came back later and took the keep when literally no one was on Mid. It was funny in the morning, but oh, did we have stories to tell everyone!
