It should not be surprising how just a little communication will calm the customers. Unfortunately, Mythic still likes to pretend that the customers are mushrooms and often withholds communication until the players start rumbling and grumbling.

If Mythic had created concrete guidelines for the contest (definitive ring stats, definitive effort to gain a definitive chance, etc. . . and with a definitive date for the distribution of the prize) then there would have been no grumbling by the players. Mythic creates these awkward situations when the problem need not have existed at all (if Mythic had just used a bit of foresight).

Now that the players have some communication they are willing to be polite and wait for a bit longer. If Mythic delays for another week then you should expect to see more concerned posts.

Well they gave you a date and that has passed (KaiSchober posted last week on Monday 11/14 “The list of participants was sent around on Friday. Winners should be drawn this week.”). I suspect that they have rolled the dice and are concerned that players may not be happy with the results. Mythic may be tweaking the results manually so that more players are happy.

IMO rather than only send emails to winners they need to send emails to everyone who participated. That way those who do not get a ring would have a definitive answer instead of simply sitting and wondering (but Mythic does love playing 'Mushroom'.

If they (Mythic/Bioware) would send emails to all who participated, then players who fall through the cracks would be able to be identified. Lets face it, knowing Mythic there is a good chance that some player(s) may have fallen through the cracks.

^ Agreed. There were several bugs that prevented players from completing hubs, and when those were fixed maybe those players didn't have time to return to complete them. Obviously these players still deserve to get a shot at the ring and I hope they get it. (No I don't fall into that category, I was able to go back and complete all hubs on my test char. )

Just saying there are definitely gray areas as always.

I also agree that Mythic should probably post specifics right off the bat next time, so that they avoid disappointing players later in either their chances to win, or the reward that they'll get. Disappointed players ALWAYS ends up in losing a few of them in the proverbial "last straw" scenario, something that not only gravely defeats the purpose of the contest, but also is something this game can ill afford.

The update is much appreciated though!

From the Herald posted:

As announced during the test phase, we have created Pendragon’s Ring to distribute it to the New User Journey test winners who are randomly drawn from the list of all testers. As a big thank you we have decided to raise the percentage of winners to 50% - every second tester will win one of these rings

Just out of curiosity, in the first iteration of the contest rules a player could increase their “good” chance of getting a ring if the player did bunches of stuff. So lets say that a player did do bunches of stuff and had almost a 100% chance to get the ring, is their chance now reduced to 50% because "every second tester will win" a ring?

Or

Will the top half of testers, those testers who did the most bunches of testing, get a ring and the bottom half of testers get no chance to get a ring. . . . even though in the first iteration of the rules those players who "completes at least one hub" would have had a “good” chance to win a ring?

I am not really sure that Mythic thinks this stuff out very well.

Not to beat a dead horse, but...Sanya is sorely missed.

I don't think Mythic intentionally disregards their player-base, as I'm sure they are fairly busy. They don't have anyone in particular that is labeled a public relations person. Kai probably talks the most out of all of them, but again I am sure he's got better things to do than make posts. Not that it takes long or anything, but relaying information via boards or even Facebook/twitter that is both accurate and timely is not exactly an easy process. And lets face it, if they made posts that were inaccurate, I think people would be more pissed than complete silence with a few whispers here and there.

IMO they could benefit greatly by HAVING someone with this job title, relations with the player-base would grow, and maybe some pressure on them to make those projected time-lines would speed up patches etc. We just get stonewalled for the most part by the staff, and I'm not really blaming them, because it's not their job.

But someone taking some time once a week to address concerns, quell the fires, or make an attempt to connect with the community could go a long way. As it is, the posts on the less-than-half-working herald seem distant. It's like they aren't connecting with the player-base at all.

And speaking of the website, a simple post like the one they did for the Pendragon ring could also go a long way. I know in my head they are working on it, but it's nice to see a quick post like "Hey we are still working on the Herald, we've run into some problems but it's coming along. We hope the top RP earner posts have been helpful, and we are confident that our new website will be something the players enjoy. We still don't have an exact ETA, but we are working hard on it."

/shrug Maybe I just got used to a dying breed.
