Hey,

I've been trying to get daoc installed and running on an iMac with the Lion OS.

Tried a few different approaches, first through parallels and Windows xp, but get Render Creation Failed.

Bootcamp won't let me install windows XP on a new machine so would have to get Windows 7 for that way to work.

Tried Wine with macports and X11, the patcher would load but after clicking Play, it vanishes and doesn't come back.

Insalled and gave WineBottler a go, made it to the character screen, and logged into the game but ran 2 steps and it crashed to black.

Are there any other ways I could try or things I might be doing wrong?
Thanks for any help and advice

The one way that does work with macs is this:

First you gotta make sure you aren't using a mac

Then you install the game and viola, it works np. You can play DAoC on linux using the wine program you mentioned however, but not very well. Actually I think I used PlayOn Linux program for it, I don't remember, had to find a script somewhere iirc.

I wish it worked as good on the other platforms as it does on PC, but it just doesn't.

VirtualBox WinXP on your Mac. Should run DAoC without issues.. Maybe a bit laggy, but, should run.

Linux with Wine runs DAoC just fine.. However, there is a patch or 2 you have to do, to make Wine run
correctly.

Also, running it in a 32bit environment was needed for me to get it working nicely.

Speaking from Linux, on the WineDB page for DAoC you need to delete the 'Z:/' drive or it will either take forever to load or never load. It might get to the server select screen but not progress further.

The destination folder/path for the install must be pre-created.

Under the newest WINEs out, the game loaded fine after following the WineDB instructions. However, without the 'patch' listed above, you must disable pixel shader, which then disables Catacombs models and leaves you with Shrouded Isles type water.

The mouse bug was fixed several Wine versions ago, but the 'patch' also included a line to allow Catacombs models, semi-reflective water, and corrected the mouse bug.

I tested on my iMac with Lion and it works in XP without a hitch using VMware Fusion 4

Though I normally run it in bootcamp on Windows 7
