Hey, wanted your thoughts on giving player buffs over NPC buffs.

Before the NPCs were placed in the BGs, I usually buffed players at will whenever I could. Many times players wouldn’t even know who buffed them and they make a /region TY post.

Now after the NPCs were put in place I went charging into Molvik to defend the realm as usual. Out of habit I would still buff people wherever I went (+19% buff). On the 2nd day it dawned on me that I my be doing more harm than good by giving out buffs. If I’m correct I’m overriding the NPC buffs right? So that if I die, LD, or if they log out/LD they will lose my buffs. I actually found that I had to stop and think to tell myself not to buff players, been basically retraining myself not to throw out buffs at a whim. So now unless I rezz or see a player get rezzed I try and hold on buffing unless otherwise asked. I’ve never gotten a complaint those times I buffed but I’m curious to what others think.

So I’m asking, if you received buffs from another player would you be happy about it, not care, or be pissed?

I just buff pets. I guess if you're poor and can't afford the NPC's, you could use the bot. There is no need to have a buff bot in the BG's, though.

Yes been buffing pets too, but wasn't specifically talking about at the portal keep but i wanted thoughts on being buffed by another player if you already have npc buffs

It's a bit tricky now with the realm buffers. If you overwrite the realm buffs, then die, ld or log you leave the player worse off. Had this happen to me in Malmo recently, a player with a shammy bot thought they'd do me a favour and overwrite my realm buffs without asking. About 10 minutes later they logged out and I'm left without buffs. Had to port out, rebuff and run all the way back as I couldn't take on red con mobs unbuffed.

It's probably best to reserve buffs for pets or until after someone has been rezzed, unless you know you're in a situation where your buffs will definitely be secure for at least as long as the realm buffs.

just let the random fellow know your when you're logging. nothing i hate more when my brother logs on my bot, i ask him for buffs to do some runs, and he rage loges and i lose all my buffs mid fight.

I wouldn't want random buffs, it's actually quite annoying especially when someone overwrites a better buff(used to happen all the time with spec AF buffs, not sure if they fixed that). The most annoying thing on Hib is random casters throwing a damage shield on people, even other casters who have their own if they wanted it(who would?).
I only accept them from people I know or at least asked me first and will let me know if they log(LD's happen to anyone, not worried about that).

Same here. I get annoyed when the healer in my group decides to overwrite my base buffs and is the first killed at inc. I play in Molvik too. IMO just buff non npc buffs like dmg add or buff pets.
