I have a GTX460m (Nvidia)in my one laptop and a 6970m (ATI(shit I think that's it, I forget)) in my other laptop
Both of course are way overkill for DAOC. The biggest thing I have found with both of them is that you will in fact pay a small amount more for the Nvidia at times, but the performance (and this is only in tests because I can't see the difference in fps) in high load situations seems to be a small amount less when comparing like models.
Don't just take our word for it, as you can go on a number of benchmark tests for laptop and desktop gpu sites and see exactly what it is you will need for the games or processes you will be running.
I'm not a fanboi of either of them to be honest, but I have found that my ATI cards have consistently run a lot cooler overall.
I have had great experiences with both types of cards myself and I have used xfire and dual-sli tech on them and have had very few problems that I can't fix with little work.
One thing to check on is if you do decide to get a very new card in a desktop (and sometimes a laptop) is if they have updated driver support. I know ATI was notorious for releasing new graphics cards with no support for months after release and it angered a lot of people to the point that they switched over to Nvidia.
Anyways, GL to you.
