OOC: The RP server needs a comeback. The people using the /rp flag are using it to say they wants rps. There are few roleplayers left and the ones I've contacted won't come back because Ywain is not RP friendly. I myself have a horrible time there and I was from Gareth, in an RP-only guild in a non-rp server. If Mordred is allowed to go on with 3 players on at all times why can't the rp server come back? It's hard to believe it would cost so much more to run one more instance of the game server since Mordred is arbitrarily kept open.

Also given that every other person I meet tells me they too come from the Bossiney cluster, it reinforces my view that the classic players are the most loyal.

@Semi4: What thinkest thou?

Your understanding of the Mordred situation is limited. There are a lot of players from Mordred who would like very much to be able to copy their Mordred toons to Ywain in order to play them in a populated environment. However, Mythic have been reluctant to do so due to issues that don't occur with regular servers.

Added a new underpopulated server to accomodate roleplayers wouldn't do the game or roleplayers a service at this stage, and would likely hurt the game by splitting limited population yet again.

You might be better off trying to think of better solutions than just the RP tag for roleplayers on Ywain, though historically, DAoC has not put much effort into accomodating roleplayers other than token differences on the RP servers.

No and no. Players on Tintagel sent a lot of feedback and petitions and took the concession of roleplaying in exchange for population. And Bossiney was low population causing the analogous situation except with classic ruleset instead of roleplaying.

I am not sure Mordred is a good example for why they should make an RP server. Mordred is not really a live server; it is more a server in limbo. I do not think that Mordred exists because it is still a viable server. I think it still exists because Mythic can’t come to a consensus concerning what they should do with Mordred. As long as the decision is in limbo Mordred remains as it is.

I understand your point and I agree with it in principal but . . . with the people that are now in charge of the game, with the limited funding and limited population, I do not see how the games population could support another server (especially a server with a limited draw).

Opening an RP server could be done but first many things would need to be put in place to get the game in a position so that an RP server could be supported.

Above all else the structure of Bioware/Mythic needs changing so that individuals at Bioware/Mythic are no longer faceless entities that can pretend to have no responsibility for the horrific mistakes that they blunder into. Without changing the company structure there is no hope of actually fixing the games true problems. Once Bioware’s/Mythic’s structure is adjusted then the game can actually be repaired rather than developers/coders/managers pointing at and blaming others for their own failure.

The existing game needs its PvE made once again relevant rather than obsolete, irrelevant and eclectic. The things that harmed Realm Pride need dramatic restructuring. The UI needs updating and game bugs need to be addressed and fixed. The huge Min/Max challenge needs minimizing. Mordred needs to be fixed/revamped and Mordred’s rule set needs vast changes and updates. Crafting needs to be made more relevant. Player friendly features need to be maximized (features like mail, better controls for guild leaders, a vastly improved LFG/’Looking For Quest Help’ UI, weapon icon color should change when poison is applied, stealth classes need general group utility, players need a general browser game account control for reviewing/managing toons, etc. . . ) and a few dozen other changes/improvements.

With the above changes, once the games population increases to the point that Ywain shows signs of being almost over-populated, Bioware/Mythic could open up an RP server.

All in all meaning DAoC would be dead before anything got done.
