Hello, folks,

A buddy and I are planning to return to DAoC after... oye... about a year after Gaheris went live.

Anyway, we plan to play on Ywain for some RvR fun and have a couple questions.

1) I've done the 14 day trial already, rolled a Heretic, (actually a couple healing types), and when in the newbie area was sent to that RvR dungeon. I love playing healers, though discovered this love after leaving DAoC so never played one in DAoC.

However, I realized that in RvR I never really got to participate. As soon as someone on the opposing side realized I was a healer they gang banged me to death, over and over again. I'm not whining, it's great tactics and I'd do the same... but it made my experience really unfun.

Does it get better? Is there anyting I can do to not be instantly turned into a puddle of goo?

2) Regarding my question above... what classes would be good to play in RvR that actually get to stand around and fight for awhile? Meaning low priority kills for the enemy?

3) For the two of us... any recommendations for a duo that may or may not be on their own in RvR? Groups are great but you know how it goes and finding an RvR group in the lower levels may be tough.

I really appreciate your help and advice.

Take care

Healing doesn't play the same in the BGs as it does at 50. It probably really starts changing around/after molvik.

Yes you will always be a target but you can become very hard to kill in many ways. At some point the other side realizes its too hard to kill healers and that it's easier to kill people who aren't getting heals. That can be people out of position or it can be because they are preventing the healers from casting or various other combinations of things.

In terms of a duo. A minstrel is probably the hands down most op'd class in the low levels and it's great for duoing. A herectic minstrel duo would do fine at most any level.

Main healers are always one of the top targets, but if you really enjoy healing, I'd play a back up healer role like a Warden or Valk. Make sure to spec for shield so you can get that one ability (forgot the name) that let's you parry (or is it block) like 60% of the melee attacks coming at you.

Again, you won't be a super main healer because you lack the instas and crowd control, but you will make a solid support toon with decent survivability that doesn't get targetted first and can turn the tide of a fight when no other "real" healer classes are in the group.

I'm actually working on a video for how to play a healer in 50 RvR. Look for it in a week or two. As for duos, minstrel and heretic are killer. The heretic opens, then the minst insta stuns before they get into melee. Things just fall over dead.

As a healing class there are several tools you get at high levels that make you more survivable.

However it wont hurt to learn how a few of the tricks to surviving at lower levels either.

1. Don't be the only healer in a group. If the other side has to split their focus between healers it makes it harder for them to kill you.

2. Don't be seen as a healer early in the fight. Stay in the back, hide close by if you can, hold off on healing early on etc. It also helps if you look fairly generic. As a heretic for example, those flame spells are like a beacon that says "kill me!" Positioning is highly important as the object is to be able to heal your group without drawing attention to yourself.

3. Play with people who know what to do to protect their healers, if possible. Easier said than done in a pick up group I know, but educate where possible.
