Me and my bro have been seeing Target Nearest Enemy not quite...well working.

It will target stuff, but instead of targeting the nearest enemy it grabs stuff way out there before it will target anything in front of me.

So say I have two mobs on me, and there's maybe 2-3 at about 750-1000 range. I'm targeting one that is on me, and I hit Target Nearest Enemy and instead of picking the second enemy attacking me it decides the next nearest enemy is way behind them, forcing my to cycle through a ton of mobs before I get the one I want. Pretty sure this never happened before or it would have annoyed the shit out of me as it is right now.

Not sure if someone posted about this before, but thought I'd make a quick post about it and see if it's just me and my bro or if others are experiencing the same thing.

Last attacker, learn it, use it, love it.

I haven't seen the problem you describe, but there's a different bug in Target Nearest that can cause it to get stuck on a pair of mobs if they happen to be standing on the same spot.

You can see this problem easily at the Tomte Camp at 47k 29k East Svealand because it has groups of mobs that stand in the same place.

always hit escape to clear your target first, then use target nearest enemy. this might fix your problem, and might not.

I know of last attacker but I've always used Nearest Enemy. Hard to break a habit. But I had plenty of time to test this as I was leveling up a Healer for thid.

I've just been leveling up a lot of toons lately. It happens a lot in the tutorial area where you have to kill the sentries/whatevs/commanders

Same thing will happen, I'll get two mobs on me, and on my healer I tried to switch mobs to apply the slow debuff, but it would cycle through the mobs behind the two that are on me before getting anything near me. I've had to resort to clicking.

Pretty sure it never used to work like this.

I'm not sure if this is the case, but it seemed to me that Nearest Friendly creates a list, ordered from nearest to furthest, of friendlies *when you first use it to get a target*. This means that if you use it once and friendlies change proximity it will still cycle through the previously generated list. Clearing my target and using it again seemed to generate a new list with the current distances. Nearest Enemy could work the same way. It makes sense as an optimization technique since they can do the calculations once and cache it, but caches like that become stale very quickly in this game.

Or maybe that's not at all what's going on. No idea.

If this is the case then it was probably changed to improve performance. But if they are going to change the function, at least change the name:

Nearest enemy to where you were 10 seconds ago.

Also one of the reasons I don't use last attacker is that if something hasn't attacked me it won't target it.

If this is indeed how it has become recently, then I petition its change and demand that it be changed back. If it was 'unintentional' I'd like to see a fix soon.

It's always been like this, that's why I stopped using it for the most part 9.5 years ago. Only time I use it is when I cross bridges or entering structures.

Learn to use your mouse although admittedly it can be very difficult to select a target in a large pack of mobs or players although with the latter if there's so many you can't click on a specific player then you're probably going to die anyway.

Biggest annoyance I had with it is it always targets pets/mobs before players, can be a real pita with BD's and Theurgs or if you have a lot of mobs on you which has happened when I've been jumped in PoC and have 5 or 6 mobs on me.

actually that makes me feel a bit better, as I have had a similar problem using the nearest target tab. can get rather frustrating when you keep dying to mobs like that. I am getting better using the mouse for targeting near targets, but once they get bunched up or too many in too small a space, it gets really hard to keep yourself alive...
