1. Action scenes...eh there's been better, though I thought the integration of the shield into the gunfights was handled very well. They did kinda montage through big chunks of the middle of the story though, you're right about this. Overall it was also much more violent than most pg13 superhero movies, with people getting very visibly shot, blown up, or blended in propellers. Also, the method of defeating Red Skull was silly, but it tied in DIRECTLY with Thor and will undoubtedly play a role in The Avengers based on Thor's post-credits scene.
2. The love interest was perfectly capable of defending herself and fought in some scenes, which is one step up from basically every other superhero movie love interest.
3. The dialogue being dumbed down is probably the part I disagree with the most, especially the scenes with Stanley Tucci (Dr. Erskine). The conversation with the schnapps before he takes the serum and the "So you want to kill nazis" conversation in particular were very well written. It's hard to keep Steve Rogers an interesting character for 2 hours but the supporting cast around him (Tucci and Tommy Lee Jones in particular) was strong enough to do so.
4. Most importantly though, the way the movie integrates into the universe of the other Marvel movies made it much more enjoyable. I don't know if you've seen the other ones yet, but there were so many Thor and Iron Man tie-ins in this movie, and it did a great job of setting up the Avengers.
5. My opinion, it was better than Thor (which I also thoroughly enjoyed) and Iron Man 2 (which I enjoyed the least out of the Marvel productions), worse than Iron Man 1 (which is easily in my top 3 superhero movies). I haven't watched the latest Hulk in a while and should probably do that again to refresh my memory.
1. The action scenes just felt really lackluster. Probably some combination with uninventive camera angles, sound track, cgi. Dunno. Never felt the intensity like some of those other Superhero movies; it was a chore getting through the movie and the action scenes just didn't do enough to redeem the rest of it for me.
2. The fact that the chic could throw a punch does not change anything about how uninteresting the love storyline was written and acted. I'm sure it's a little tougher if you are scripting from comic book source, as those love plots usually seem to be a bit superficial. But the chemistry on screen wasn't good, and was frought with terrible, cliched dialogue. Which brings me to
3. Overall terrible, cliched dialogue. Granted, their were a few moments like the schnapps lines that were orginal and amusing. But those moments were drowned in a sea of unremarkable dialogue that was near word for word transcribed from every other bad action movie of the last ten years. It was like a bunch of stereotype puppet characters, muttering their pre-programmed one liners each time their string was pulled. Again, part of this is source material, because you have to have the "gruff general" or the "feisty love interest", etc etc, but those Actors and Actresses were reciting for a paycheck, not acting with passion. They didn't make me believe in anything.
4. I honestly don't care about tie ins to other movies. While I think it's neat that they are expanding the Marvel world to such a degree, I want the movie to stand on it's own. It's relationship to other films is not part of my evaluation of the film itself.
5. Iron Man was better, agreed. I'd probably put Iron Man 2 above this though. RDJ is a great example of how to really become the character. Haven't seen Thor or Hulk.
Anyhoo, you of course are entitled to your opinion, and the above is in no way meant to suggest that your interpretation is wrong and that you should bend to my will and analysis. This is simply how I interpreted the material as presented to me, through my eyes and ears and ideas of what makes a film good.
