I'm running in a standard user account with Vista.

If I start decal in administrator mode, I'm able to update and operate with decal working in game, as long as I also run Asherons Call in admin mode. The wierd this doing this is that my quest journal is missing? Any thoughts on what directory AC thinks its running in while in admin mode?

I used to be able to run decal and AC in non-admin mode, and everything had been working fine until this last patch. Now if I launch decal by dbl-clicking the desktop icon it says: "our AC client is out of date. If you are using dual log, make sure all directories contain a current version, or get the latest version from Turbine. (client version=0.90.11.2886 xml version=0.0.11.3957)". If I then open the Decal interface and hit update it says "A file being updated is in use- close programs and try again" 5 times, then says "your decal components have been updated", but the GUI still shows all red x's.

Help?

Find your memlocks.xml, messages.xml, updatelist.xml, and delete them.

Then try to update.

Also, you do have Decal in the non-default directory?

Hopefully you will be able to download the new files.

Shut down Decal and try it.

If that does not work, do not have Decal running and try it. If that does not work-

Boot into safe mode (usually by pressing the F8 key while rebooting), navigate to the file folder and try deleting it.

Yeah, I've tried all that.

I've removed decal, and reinstalled, and get the same crap, where decal can't be updated because some file is in use.

Does anyone know what the difference between running in administrator mode (Vista) in a standard user account versus just running Decal normally (just starting decal from the desktop icon)? It seems that they run from different directories and/or see different version of the AC client.

The administrator mode gives full rights to the system, where a standard user does not have rights to write to directories like c:\program files..

I know you said you uninstalled and reinstalled decal.. did you reboot between? Or did you make sure that decal was closed?

Yes, I've shut down decal. Yes I've tried rebooting in between. If I remove and reinstall decal, it still says that a file is in use while trying to update. The only way I can get it to update is by launching it in admin mode. Doing that requires me to launch AC in admin mode in order to get both working. While running in admin mode, the computer must be running AC in some other directory because I can't see my normal Quest Journal. If I search the drive (in standard user mode) it doesn't find another journal file. I guess I'll have to log in as the admin and search the computer.

How do you all install/launch decal/AC in Vista? I've tried installing decal as the admin, but this didn't make any difference. Do you all launch both in admin mode?
