I have been having this problem on and off for a very long while now. It has happened on an XP and Vista machine while using LifeTank and VirindiTank.


So here it is.


I can run around manually hunting/fighting/questing for hours. I run to a dungeon and start up my macro of choice and lose connection about 2 minutes later. If I quickly click log out a few times, it will log me out to the characer selection screen. I can then log back in and hunt manually for an unlimited amount of time. But as soon as I click start on the macro, it will again lose connection about 2 minutes in.


So here is the weird part.


I can log in after I lose connection and recall out of the dungeon. Once I do this, I have to log out and back in. Then I have to take a random portal (normally use a town gem) and log out at this place. I have to do this 2-3 times in different locations. Then I can go back to the dungeon and start the macro and it runs fine.


So the question is......WTF is going on here?


I would appreciate any thoughts or suggestions. I have everything installed to a directory other than default. I have UAC disabled. Windows is updated. All drivers are updated. I am using the most currecnt version of all plugins.

I wouldn't think it would have anything to do with the router I am using. But to be safe I disabled all firewalls (Windows and Router).

what happens if you start the macro then go into the dungeon?

Never tried starting up the macro then running in.


Virindi, as far as ports, would they cause this problem sporadically? It doesn't always do this. I would say 1 out of 5 times when I start up the macro it happens. But once it starts happening, I have to go through the log in and out steps I posted about above.

Intermittent connection drops in AC are almost always the result of port issues.

Just a little more info/update.


Went into the user preferences file under the documents/ac folder and changed the option "compute unique port" to true and I haven't had the problem again (yet).


I'll keep ya updated in case this actually corrected the problem. May come in handy for someone in the future.

Been a few days since I made the change I posted about and haven't had the problem again.


VI, thanks for pointing me towards the ports. Hopefully this is a permanent fix.

Blah. Started happening again.


Next try. Went in and set a port instead of having it computeunique. Then I went in and set up port triggering in my router for that one. Let's see how this works.


Edit: This immediately cleared up the connection loss. Didn't have to recall and log in/out all over Dereth. I'll keep ya updated.
