I try to use my rare ua with vtank but my char just runs up to the monster and continuously wields and unwields the ua will not attack with it.

I know it is a melee weapon. It is also a rare and depending on level gives some additional buffs for your magic skills. I had a similar problem when I used Smite on a reroll. With the weapon equipped my skill was just above the treshold for casting level 7s, without it the skill was below.
