What is the deal with this game?? I just randomly stumbled across it, and it is almost like an AC3 clone. I guess even though it just came out last year, it started in 2001 or 2002, so it really is just that old a generation of game? But SO many aspects of it are just like Asheron's Call.

It's also a great deal like the only text-based MMO I've ever played, Dragon Realms, in a lot of ways too. It's like they had been playing those two games and had wanted to make an MMO that incorporated them, and it's insane! Really, it's as if it were an AC3 from a game mechanics point of view. From a lore point of view, though, it's made more to be just an absolute classic fantasy setting, than one about portal magic and Dereth.

I played Darfall heavily for about 15 months, I wouldn't call it an AC Clone at all. I would very much consider it a 3d PvP MMO based more on Ultima Online.

It is an amazingly good game, but it requires such a huge time investment, far beyond anything Turbine ever asked of its customers.

Also, it is really an amazingly good game.

Darkfall is a great game. A lot of AC alumni there. Mostly DT'ers..

Only game I've played that truly reminded me of AC.

huge time investment, yeah, but most of the stuff can be done macroing while you sleep, read a book, or something. nothing like raiding six hours a night for months straight to get a piece of gear. a lot like UO in that regard, or maybe even AC, as the people I knew who played AC all had intricate macros that leveled their characters for them.

that being said, after a year and a half my character's not even close to being finished. doesn't matter, though... after a point you'll be competitive because it's not so much about the character skills as it is about the skill of the player controlling the character.

the mmo market sure needs an injection of skill-based games, that's for sure

instead of shiny, pretty, bonehead games that any 6 yr old can master in a week
