I pretty much am flying blind with these devices, having never used one myself and I see that they vary WILDLY in price... so, any help or recommendations would be appreciated.

i have this: Samsung WEP870 - headset - Ear-bud, Binaural
it's cheap and awesome

I just have the ps3 bluetooth headset and it works fine for me though I don't use it with a phone

Personally, I have been a fan of the Jabra behind-the-ear styles. I'm currently using a BT-500 (having previously owned a BT-250). The new version of this style seems to be called the "Jabra Wave". Quality-wise, I have no complaints, and I've never had people on the other end comment about my voice when on calls.
What I like about it is that it doesn't sit on the ear like most other BT earpieces. It's thin enough that it doesn't interfere with (sun)glasses either, and is quite comfortable for long periods.
