anyone use crystalized ginger for tea?

i tried it just seeping in boiled water but it doesn't get strong enough. do i have to treat it like it's fresh and do it on the stove so it boils for a while with the ginger in it?

the only thing i know about that personally is that my grandmother used to cut off a piece and chew it
