Is it worth upgrading RAM from 4gbs to 8gbs....only 50 bucks???

Yes -- laptops need it far more than PCs because it makes it so the disk drive is used less often.
Having an SSD drive is also better in a laptop than PC.

only if you are running 64 bit Windows 7 or similar on it. Check it first. Windows XP or 32 bit versions of later OS's will not use the extra memory.
