So what happens if your vice president pick resigns just prior to the election?

Would they still be elected since their name would be on the ballots or how would that work?

Section 2 of the Twenty-fifth Amendment provides for Vice Presidential succession:
Whenever there is a vacancy in the office of the Vice President, the President shall nominate a Vice President who shall take office upon confirmation by a majority vote of both Houses of Congress.
This does not specifically deal with the scenario, but the running Presidential candidate would probably be best left to pursue this course rather than attempt to name a person before the election.
